Peggy Noonan with a smart piece about dialogue and its importance in political discourse. The UFlorida taser kid could have fit nicely within, too. Let them all speak if we are to find our way home again.

Hey idiots, why not turn out nonessential lights anyway? Turning out lights you’re not using should not be a special occasion.

The Court felt her Constitutional rights were shit, because it was possible that she might be hiding Advil. Writing for the majority (and scripting another step in our descent into civil liberties hell), Judge Richard Clifton said that there was “good reason to be extra vigilant” in looking for drugs. Story here.
In similar developments, pick up that cake, “nappy-head”.
UPDATE: Ninth Circuit overturns the lower court decision – but by only one vote. Judge Kim McLane Wardlaw writing for the majority:
“Directing a 13-year-old girl to remove her clothes, partially revealing her breasts and pelvic area, for allegedly possessing ibuprofen, an infraction that poses an imminent danger to no one, and which could be handled by keeping her in the principal’s office until a parent arrived or simply sending her home, was excessively intrusive…”

At the LA County fair last week, they were serving something called “fried coke.” Now my first thought was: gosh, what a waste of a perfectly good eight ball. But no, they actually pour Coca-Cola syrup into a deep fryer, then put it in a cup and top it with sugar and whipped cream and a cherry (because, y’know, fruit is good for ya.) Would it really be that much more unhealthy to get molested by one of the carnies?
In Hillary Clinton’s health care plan, the words “nutrition” and “exercise” appear once. The word “drugs” – fourteen times. Just as the pharmaceutical companies wanted. You know, their ad weasels love to say “when diet and exercise fail..” Well, diet and exercise don’t fail. A fact brought home last week by a new Duke University study that showed that exercise – yes, exercise – is just as effective a cure for depression as Paxil and Zoloft. So, ask your doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

This is interesting to say the least. Gives the conspiracy theorists some room to run, for sure. But in the shadowy underworld of international “business”, material changes hands – and we all know there aren’t many hops from the CIA to Central American drug trafficking.

A decent, short general-audience piece on why it’s happening, why it’ll get worse, and why it may not be orderly.

A few months ago, I wrote to Senator Feinstein expressing my outrage about Gonzales and the cabal, their unconstitutional behavior, and my suggestion that she demand his firing. A few days ago, I received her response: Read the rest of this entry »
