The last couple of days around Budapest have been interesting in both good and bad ways. Overall, while I’ve seen some great sights and learned a lot, I’ve not enjoyed Budapest as much as my other destinations thus far. Hassles have been a bit easier to come by, I’ve felt hustled more than once, and while I’ve encountered some warm and gracious people, I’ve also encountered quite a few who could give substantially less than a shit.
I have, however, enjoyed some wonderful sights. I climbed Gellért Hill (still out of breath, it seems) and explored the Citadella (and with such a great view, made some great photos.) Visited St. Stephen’s Basilica (just across from my hotel,) checked out the Gellert Baths, walked Andrássy Avenue and Vaci Street, saw the old Chain Bridge, Heroes’ Square and explored the Buda Castle grounds.
I’ll probably head out of here tomorrow and begin making my way back west. I want to make it back home by Thanksgiving week, and still want to squeeze in a few days in Paris. I feel like I’ve not had enough time to do/see everything I wanted, so that just means I need to come back soon.
