Canon dusting Nikon?

25 08 2005

Canon really seems to be jumping ahead of Nikon. I really want to upgrade from my D70 – medium format is tempting but, as Peter Rojas points out on Engadget, medium format cameras still feel like you’re buying a car, not a camera.

Nikon needs to offer more options for the semi-pro photog. The D2X is an excellent camera but still around $5000. The rumored D200 is nowhere to be seen yet. With Canon promising several 8-to-12MP cameras in the next quarter or so, it’s a touch disheartening to a guy with a lot of Nikon glass who is looking for a reasonable upgrade path.

There’s also some interesting discussion over at photographyblog.com about the apparent slowdown of Nikon in the marketplace.

Well…word is that the D200 will be announced this September. If you can keep taking pictures till then, maybe you can see if this is the camera you’ll upgrade do.

Cheers! :~)
