I spent the last couple of days exploring the Gulf Coasts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. I was blown away by the scope of the Hurricane Katrina devastation – especially along the Mississippi coast (the Biloxi region particularly.) I have never seen destruction on this scale.
Dozens of miles along the coast reduced quite literally to debris – from homes to malls to hotels and casinos – many now are just a fallen sign and a foundation. I took a couple of snapshots, but only a helicopter and a wide-angle lens (neither of which I have with me) would really do it justice.
Anyway, I spent the night in New Orleans and wandered around the French Quarter. Not particularly impressed with the whole scene there – didn’t really match my taste – but hell, it works for many.
Next stop: Austin, TX.
